During World War II Australia sent many young men into battle in many parts of the world. In order for the troops to fight the battles effectively transport sections were critical. The 1st Australian Corps Petrol Park were one of these units.
The 1st Australian Corps Petrol Park was formed at Puckapunyal Victoria in early 1940 in order to provide transport service to the 6th and 7th Divisions. It was comprised of a Headquarters Section and two Sub Parks, Nos 1 & 2 each with their own workshops section.
The unit served in many theatres of war including :-
Palestine Syria
Egypt New Guinea
Libya Morotai
Greece Borneo
Crete
The two Sub Parks were rarely together and generally operated independently of each other The last time all units of Corps Petrol Park were together was at Hadett in Lebanon in 1941. Shortly afterwards, before leaving the Middle East, No 1 Sub Park was reformed as the 2/106 General Transport Company and No 2 Sub Park as the 2/105 General Transport Company.
This home page is a only just beginning and over time I hope to include some of the History of the 1st ACPP, Photo’s of some of the troops, stories they have told and as much information as I can find.
I welcome any assistance from Members and Family of the 1st ACPP in the creation of the site and the capturing of the History of the Unit.
